NWS 6-10 Day Calls for Warmer Temps Across Corn Belt

The National Weather Service forecast for April 27 through May 1 calls for above-normal temps across the bulk of the Corn Belt, along with Central and Southern Plains. Meanwhile, eastern Iowa and the entire eastern Corn Belt is expected to see above-normal rains, while drier conditions are expected across the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, western Iowa and northwest Missouri.

Warmer temps, if realized, would be welcome in warming soils, but the continuation of wetter conditions across the eastern Corn Belt signal planting delays there will linger into May. This forecast suggests planting could pick up in the western Corn Belt by early May.
