Extended Outlook Warm Across Plains and Southern Corn Belt

The National Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center (CPC) has issued its extended weather forecasts and its outlook for June through August calls for above-normal temps across the Central and Southern Plains as well as the southern Corn Belt. It also calls for below-normal precip continuing across the Central and Southern Plains, while there are equal chances for below-, normal and above-normal precip across the Northern Plains and the Corn Belt.

The outlook for June calls for above-normal temps across the West into the Central and Southern Plains, while there are equal chances for below-, normal and above-normal temps across the Northern Plains and the Midwest. Most of the West and the Central and Southern Plains are also expected to see below-normal precip, while other areas have equal chances for below-, normal and above-normal precip.

The CPC's Seasonal Drought Outlook is based primarily on the short-, medium- and long-term forecast models and current climatology. It calls for "some improvement" to the Nebraska drought, as well as the eastern halves of Oklahoma and Texas. But drought is expected to persist in the western Plains and Southwest.
