Double-Down On Your Cow-Calf Skills in Denver
Producers will learn how to apply management practices to ensure the health, performance and quality of cattle
With beef’s high profit potential in 2015, it is imperative producers get the latest education and training to enhance their operations. Cattlemen have a unique opportunity to learn from top industry leaders at the first cow-calf focused Cowboy College this June in Denver.
This educational program is designed specifically for producers involved in the day-to-day care and welfare of cattle. Led by industry-leading veterinarians, producers will learn new technologies to improve cattle health.
The two-day event starts with low-stress animal handling techniques, led by Tom Noffsinger, DVM, animal handling expert based in Benkelman, Neb. As a consulting veterinarian, he is well-known for his passion of teaching low-stress animal handling on cow-calf ranches and feedlot operations.
Producers will learn the latest research about antibiotic decisions, biosecurity and proper herd vaccination programs with Dan Thomson, DVM, Kansas State University (KSU). As a leader in animal welfare, beef cattle production and health management, Thomson currently serves as the global co-leader for McDonald’s Beef Health and Welfare Committee and director of the Beef Cattle Institute at KSU. Thomson will also lead participants in the BQA on-farm assessment.
Nutrition is important at every level of beef production, says Rick Funston, DVM, University of Nebraska. His presentation on increasing production efficiency through reproductive management will have actionable steps producers can implement in their operation.
To help attendees improve overall ranch sustainability, ranch consultant Wayne Fahsholtz will present ways to improve ranching profitability while protecting the environment. Kansas Angus seedstock producer Mark Gardner will share his outlook for the future of genetic selection and bull decisions.
The event will be full of networking opportunities with the best and brightest cattlemen and high-touch question and answer sessions.
