Finally, Finally,Finally, – Cattle Rally
All cattle feeding regions finally were able to take advantage of the market last week and come away with higher prices. The south traded mostly at $112 with a few yards taking $111 before the trade was in full swing.
Cash fed cattle trade had a large range in both the live and dressed action. The fluctuation in the cash price in this trade seemed to be mostly dependent on the location of the cattle. Cash trade ranged from $114-$116 with dressed trade coming in at $182-$185.
The number of market ready cattle in the north will continue to be short for the seeable future. Kansas will also see a shortened show list as feeders prepare for the upcoming run of grass cattle that begins this time of year.
Packers may have to start shoring up their harvest numbers if they want to try to keep the cash price under control, and profits heightened. Many protein companies are putting their emphasis on their beef sector to carry other struggling proteins.
