Cash Fed Cattle Steady to Softer, Feeder Cattle Lower
Feedlots sold cattle at $113 to $114 per cwt. this week, with a few up to $115. Dressed sales in the Northern Plains traded at $180.
Steer and heifer calves sold at auction $2 to $6 lower. AMS reporters said, “Over the course of this fall, feeder cattle buyers have been more stringent on health protocols of cattle on offer. Buyers now have orders that require calves have at least one, preferably two rounds of shots and be weaned 60 days or more. Feedlots have been content to be selective when it comes to purchasing those higher risk offerings.”
Boxed beef cutout values were weaker for the Choice product. Choice cutout closed $2.29 lower for the week at $212.91, with Select $1.15 lower at $197.57. The Choice-Select spread was $15.34.
