South Dakota Man Accused of Stealing $348,000 Worth of Cattle, Feed
A man in South Dakota is alleged to have stolen more than $348,000 worth of cattle and feed checks.
Between Feb. 1 and July 31, Aaron Podzimek, of Wagner, allegedly stole cattle worth $301,871.30 and feed checks worth approximately $47,000.
Podzimek was indicted on Sept. 20 on charges of grand theft of more than $100,000 and less than $500,000.01, a Class 3 felony, and grand theft of more than $5,000 and less than $100,000.01, a Class 4 felony.
On Sept. 21, a warrant for Podzimek’s arrest was issued and he was arrested the following afternoon.
After the arrest Podzimek posted bond.
Craig Parkhurst, the state's attorney for Douglas County, was appointed to replace Charles Mix County State's Attorney Steven Cotton after Cotton filed a request for another attorney to prosecute the case. Cotton filed the request because of a conflict of interest.
Parkhurst declined to provide more details on the specifics of the events leading up to Podzimek’s charges.
An arraignment for Podzimek was scheduled for Oct. 29.
