Mississippi: Events Promote Better Pasture Grasses in 2014

Mississippi cattle producers can learn ways to improve their pastures at upcoming events taking place around the state this spring.
On April 10 in Starkville, the Oktibbeha County Extension office is hosting a cool-season forage tour at the Henry H. Leveck Research Farm on the south side of the Mississippi State University campus. The evening tour will be from 5 to 7 p.m.
Topics will include alfalfa, clovers, tall fescue, oats and ryegrass.

On April 25 in Holly Springs, the Marshall County Extension office will host a similar field day for north Mississippi producers. The free event will take place from 9 a.m. until noon at the north Mississippi Branch Experiment Station at 42 MAFES Circle on Highway 7 North. Mississippi also will host a regional forage and pasture meeting April 21-23 in Biloxi. The Southern Pasture and Forage Crop Improvement Conference annual meeting will take place at Treasure Bay Hotel and Casino. The meeting will include the latest forage management and production recommendations and tours of local agricultural enterprises. Preregistration is $120 by April 16 and $150 after that date.
