While a large portion of the U.S. is feeling the effects of below-average temperatures, many cattle farmers and ranchers are either in the midst of calving season or getting ready to start within the next few months.

The weather can play havoc on everything from feeding cows that are starting to lactate and calf health and survivability to cow mobility as they move around on frozen terrain and facilities. But the one thing we can try to control is the time of year when calves are conceived and born.
