Wyoming Included in Japanese Food Writers' US Beef Tour
Food writers from Japan are getting a taste of how beef is raised and eaten in the U.S. as part of a tour that included a 112-year-old Wyoming ranch.
The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports the U.S. Meat Export Federation invited half a dozen Japanese journalists to tour the American cattle industry from gate to plate.
Japanese imports of American beef contributed $2 million to the U.S. economy in 2014, second only to Mexico.
The Farthing Ranch is located about 45 miles northwest of Cheyenne and was included in the tour with the help of the Wyoming Beef Council. Group Executive Director Ann Wittmann says the journalists are going to high-end steakhouses in New York next.
Yuko Shimada edits a men's lifestyle magazine and said through an interpreter during the tour that she's interested in writing about an industry that most Japanese consumers don't know much about.
