One of the major benefits Lon Frahm sees to being a grain farmer is it offers him the flexibility to travel the world. Frahm has been to Europe "more times than I can count,” as well as to South America, Scandinavia, Africa, Southeast Asia, and New Zealand and Australia. Always with the mission of tying his trips into agricultural education opportunities, Frahm is able to take what he's learned and apply it to his own operation.
"The more you travel the more you realize what you don't know about the world,” he says. "It's a humbling experience. I finally deduced the more I travel, the more boards I serve on and the more people I meet, the more I realize I don't know. That keeps me grounded and it keeps me learning and it keeps me inquisitive.”
Frahm has also given his crew the opportunities to travel the world.
"I try to transmit the same curiousity to them..  I'll come back from a trip and I'll say you wouldn't believe what I saw being grown in Bangkok, or how they harvest rice by hand in Viet Nam. We learn a lot about other cultures from our foreign interns as well. I believe being worldly is a healthy attitude to hold, the more I travel, the more I am convinced we are absolutely in a world economy.”
