There are some interesting new, numbers when it comes to beef production in the U.S. over the last 50 years. USDA researchers say production has increased by 25%. That’s even while the number of cattle for beef has decreased by 6%.

Researchers created a graphic showing beef production. The decline in the number of cattle has been more than countered by an increase in cattle weights that increase more than 30%. Experts say changes in breeding practices have produced heifers and steers with higher growth rates and higher feed conversion efficiencies in pastures and feedlots. With that in mind, USDA is forecasting beef production to reach record levels this year and next year.
