Protection When Cutting
Clear lenses are fine for wearing under a welding helmet. But if you plan to wear the glasses for cutting with plasma or oxy-fuel, you'll want tinted lenses of the proper shade.
Tinted safety glasses are considered sufficient protection for cutting (as opposed to welding). "But it's a good practice to wear a full face shield,” says Eric Sommers of Miller Electric Mfg. Co. "If you have a good welding helmet with adjustable lens shades, it's simple and safe to wear it for both welding and cutting.”
