How Breedr is Using $27M in Series B Funding to Digitally Transform the Global Beef Supply Chain

The precision livestock platform operates across 10 global supply chains, with 2 million cattle already on its books and aims to bring individual animal intelligence to each of the world’s 1.3 billion cattle.

Breedr, a precision livestock management platform, today announced a $27 million Series B funding round. The investment was led by Partech through its impact fund, with participation from growth-stage fund Latitude — a sister fund of seed investor LocalGlobe — and Series A lead Outsiders Fund.

This latest injection brings Breedr’s total funding to $46.6 million. The capital will be used to scale its global engineering team, register more ranchers onto the platform and build out advanced features like genomic data tracking.

Founded in the U.K. in 2018 by Ian Wheal, Breedr is now headquartered in Austin, Texas. The company operates connected supply chains across the U.S., United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.

“We built Breedr to bring value back to the people who raise the cattle,” Wheal says. “You cannot manage what you do not measure, and paper records don’t scale. If you buy beef from a major retailer in the U.S. or U.K., there is a high likelihood it passed through a Breedr-powered supply chain. This funding will connect our data pipelines globally.”

With more than 1.3 billion cattle in the world, Breedr’s ambition is to become the system of record for every major livestock-producing region, producing higher quality, more sustainable beef. More than 2 million cattle are already on the platform with close to $500 million of livestock transacted this year, and customers range from family ranches to operations handling more than 100,000 cattle a year.

Solving the Global Beef Supply Crunch

The U.S. cattle herd has shrunk to its lowest level since 1951, causing calf crops to drop while consumer demand for beef continues to climb. To bridge this gap, beef producers must optimize the efficiency and yield of every animal.

Traditionally, the cattle trade has relied on paper records and visual appraisals at physical auctions. Breedr replaces this analog system with a secured digital record that tracks an animal’s entire lifecycle.

How Does the Breedr Platform Work?

Breedr gives every animal a digital record- its weight, health and family history, updated at each of the three or four farms and ranches an animal typically passes through during its lifespan.

Instead of selling at auction, where buyers judge an animal by eye, producers trade on Breedr’s marketplace, where every animal comes with its digital record and fees are lower. Breedr’s growth prediction model uses AI to help inform the optimum point of sale. A separate cattle fund managed by Breedr advances cash against livestock, so producers can unlock money tied up in animals they’re still raising.

Environmental and Economic Co-Benefits

Because Breedr’s data models allow producers to optimize nutrition and growth cycles, cattle reach target weights up to five months faster than standard industry practices. This accelerated timeline means cows spend fewer days on feed, reducing their lifetime methane output by 20% to 30% while yielding over $500 in additional profit per animal for the farmer.

“Decarbonizing agriculture is incredibly complex, but Breedr solves it by aligning environmental benefits with rancher profitability,” says Arnaud Minvielle, Partech general partner. “We are thrilled to back Ian and his team as they build the data and transaction layer for the global livestock industry.”
