Cargill Dodge City Workers Ratify New Contract

Employees at the Kansas beef processing facility voted May 23 to approve a new labor agreement, avoiding any disruption in operations as the previous contract expired.

Union members at Cargill’s Dodge City, Kan., beef processing facility have voted to ratify a new labor agreement.

“We are pleased to share that employees at our Dodge City facility voted on May 23 to ratify a new labor agreement with UFCW Local 2,” confirms a Cargill spokesperson. “The new contract took effect May 24, immediately following expiration of the prior agreement. We appreciate the productive discussions throughout the bargaining process and thank our employees and union partners for helping reach an agreement that supports our people, our customers and the long-term future of the facility.”

Update on Fort Morgan Lockout

The lockout that started May 20 at Cargill’s Fort Morgan, Colo., beef facility continues. A Cargill spokesperson says the next meeting with the union is scheduled for May 27.

“We have told the union we remain open to reviewing any counterproposals they bring forward and would welcome a joint meeting with a mediator,” the spokesperson reports. “In the meantime, we are using our broader supply chain network to help minimize disruption and continue serving customers.”
