Texas ranchers have voted to establish a state-level program to promote and market beef in the nation’s leading cattle-producing state.

A $1 increase is being voted on for the Texas Beef Checkoff from June 2-6, at local Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service county offices.

Call it a facelift, a refresh or a redesign. Whatever its name, the checkoff-funded BeefResearch.org has a new look and improved functionality, including housing the Beef Issues Quarterly e-newsletter.

State officials say Raber’s Packing Co. of Peoria, Ill., is recalling 21 pounds of its beef jerky because it was not inspected.

Two Massachusetts Whole Foods Market stores are recalling 368 pounds of ground beef that may be contaminated with E. coli bacteria.

Thanks to lower corn prices, improved pasture conditions and increased domestic demand, beef cattle producers can expect to continue to see record prices for beef this year.

Rather than keeping problem, inferior or old bulls through the winter, give some thought to marketing the culls.
