Organic No Better than Conventional Food

BeefToday.com Editors

In a large scale meta-analysis of studies comparing organic to conventional food production, no differences in nutritional value or health benefits were found. Overall the report, which is published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found no differences in most nutrients in organically or conventionally grown crops, including in vitamin C, calcium, and iron. The same was true for studies looking at meat, dairy and eggs.

The study was reported by the British Broadcasting Corporation. For the full report, go to: news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/8174482.stm

The study was conducted by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and it looked at 162 studies. While 55 of studies found small differences in nutrition, none were large enough to be of any public health benefit.
