Two more Tyson plant closures are making headlines with a new WARN notice posted by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry that identifies two plants in the northern part of Philadelphia, Penn., to be part of the layoff. According to the notice, this shutdown would be effective Jan. 31, 2025, and would impact 229 workers.

The plants include the Original Philly Cooked Plant and Original Philly Raw Plant. These plants were acquired by Tyson Foods in 2017.

The company told local news stations the decision was made to help the business operate more efficiently.

On Dec. 3, Tyson announced the permanent closure of a beef and pork plant in Emporia, Kan, that employs more than 800 people.

Tyson’s beef business, its largest unit, reported an adjusted loss of $291 million in its 2024 fiscal year that ended September, compared with income of $233 million for fiscal year 2023. The company projects the business will also suffer an operating loss in fiscal year 2025, Reuters reports.
