FBI Arrests Nevada Rancher Cliven Bundy
The FBI arrested Cliven Bundy late Wednesday at the Portland International Airport, Portland, Ore. Bundy, the Nevada rancher who owes more than $1 million in federal grazing fees and whose refusal to pay those fees led to an armed standoff with authorities two years ago, was apparently on his way to the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge to show support for the 40-day occupation led by two of his sons, Ammon and Ryan Bundy.
Bundy, 74, was booked into the downtown Multnomah County jail at 10:54 p.m., charged with conspiracy to interfere with a federal officer, the same charge filed against his sons. Bundy also faces weapons charges.
The Bundy Ranch Facebook page reported Cliven Bundy was surrounded by SWAT officers and detained after his arrival from Nevada.
The arrest came as events on Wednesday suggest the occupation of the remote wildlife refuge are entering a tense final stage. The FBI says they are hopeful for a peaceful resolution to the standoff.
