Deep down, producers understand the business decisions they have to make during drought, but many are not prepared for dismantling the cow herd.

Oklahoma State University agricultural economist Derrell Peel says that a lot of producers in drought areas are undergoing emotional trauma right now making these tough decisions. Given the current tight supplies in the cattle industry right now, they also know it will be expensive to get back in over the next few years.
