Fed Cattle Highest In 16 Months

Cash fed cattle prices posted new highs for the year this week with expectations for more next week. Wholesale beef trade this week confirmed boxed prices are headed lower after a historic run.

Cash fed cattle traded higher in all regions this week, with tops found in Iowa at $125 per cwt. Most sales in the North were at $123 to $124 in what was called light t moderate trade, with most dressed sales at $195 per cwt., and a top of $197 per cwt., $4 higher than last week. Moderate sales in the South at $122 per cwt., $2 higher. The market’s top this week was the highest in 16 months.

August live cattle futures rose 45 cents to settle at $121.55 per hundredweight, up from $120.025 at the end of last week and the second consecutive weekly gain. August feeder cattle fell $2.375 to $155.025, up from $151.575 a week ago.
