The American cowboy is still held in high regard even in this day of increasing urbanization.

This past Saturday cowboys and cowgirls were celebrated National Day of the Cowboy. A lot of social media users shared images of the cowboys they admire. Here are some of the photos we found:

Cameron, Montana. Cowboys move cattle during a fall roundup on the Sun Ranch. Images like this go against the whip-and-spur image people associate with the American cowboy. These cowboys specialize in low-stress stockmanship, or cattle handling. The Sun Ranch's 25,000 acres of rangeland are managed holistically, with as much care given to the health of the animals as to the native grasses, streams, and wildlife. Cattle share the land with elk, antelope, deer, grizzlies, and wolves. For a stunning account of life on Sun Ranch, check out "Badluck Way," by Bryce Andrews.
