Cash Cattle Prices Steady, Feeders Higher
Cash fed cattle prices were called slightly firmer this week with packer interest only moderate. The week’s top prices were paid in the North at $122 to $126 live, and $196 to $201 dressed, with a range of $1 higher to $1 lower. Most cattle in the South sold at $120 per cwt., though the range varied from $117 to $120. Some cattle sold in Kansas at $122 and destined for Nebraska plants.
Fed cattle supplies remain plentiful, but consumer demand also remains relatively strong. Strong beef packer margins suggests support for firm prices in the near term.
Boxed beef prices remain on a downward trend, with Choice boxed beef falling $12.10 this week to $267.94 on Friday. Select closed at $251.79 per cwt., $7.58 lower on the week.
Feeder cattle were called steady to $6 higher.
