Tyson Foods Inc. has announced a proposal to build a new processing facility near its existing poultry plant in Green Forest, Ark.

The Springdale-based company says the $136 million project is contingent in part on the approval of incentives from Carroll County and the Arkansas Economic Development Commission. The company says the project would create about 85 jobs once it’s fully operational.

The existing Green Forest plant now makes partially cooked chicken products — such as chicken nuggets — and it employs more than 1,250 people. Tyson says the new facility would help the plant increase its capacity.

Tyson proposes to build the new facility across the street from the existing plant. Construction could begin as early as the summer for the project, which would be completed by late 2017.
