Monday Market Sentiment: 5-Area price drops

The 5-Area Accumulated Average Cattle Price dropped slightly this week from $136.13 on February 29 to $135.66 on March 7.

The panel of cattle industry experts who make up our Monday Market Sentiment were a little optimistic with a prediction of $137.32 per hundredweight. This week, the panel is a little lower with an average guess of $136.58 per hundredweight.

Choice boxed beef saw an increase through the week, starting March 1 at $218.15 per hundredweight, and ending March. 7 on $221.42 per hundredweight. The increase moved the 27-day average to $217.98 per hundredweight.

Each week the Cattle Trader Center, on behalf of Merck Animal Health, awards a $100 gift certificate from Cabela's to the industry leader whose forecast comes closest to the 5-Area cash trade number reported by the USDA. The most recent winners was Matt Selee, Cattle Empire.
