Machines Made To Make Hay: Case IH’s Latest Product Introduction

Though this year’s haying season may be coming to a close, excitement at Case IH has already begun for next season.

Announcing the launch of their “powerhouse lineup” of hay equipment, the company brings upgrades to their standard round baler, an all-new professional series of round balers, additional sizes of center pivot disc mower conditioners and small square baler technology upgrades.

With this product announcement, the company explains its focus is on reliability and efficiency for producers to get the job done.

“With new options available to them, producers will experience even higher quality hay and overall productivity improvements,” Brian Spencer, Case IH hay and forage equipment marketing manager said in the product release.

RB6 HD Pro

The newest addition to the Case IH round baler lineup, RB6 HD Pro, aims to handle higher annual bale counts and improve performance during long days in the field. Tackling wet and heavy silage, with superior speed and using fewer moving parts and chains, producers might enjoy lower overall maintenance and greater productivity, the release explains.

More specifications include:

• A new heavy-duty drive system provides durable operation and longer life.

• A rugged main gear box offers efficient transfer of power that drives from both the left and right.

• An Extra-Wide, 82-inch tine-to-tine, heavy-duty 5-bar pickup to maximize productivity.

• Dual zone in-cab density allows operators to set both core and outer densities based upon bale storing needs.

Other round baler upgrades include:

• RB565 Premium: new heavy-duty drive option with larger chains and sprockets, larger main gear box and higher capacity cutout clutch

• RB456A Standard: 30% wider pickup, stuffer feeding system and an upgraded wrapping system

Center-Pivot DC5

This new size option for Case IH disc mower conditioners aims to provide efficient crop flow and faster dry down.

Each model’s specifications include:

• DC105 disc mower conditioner: A new configuration offers truly modular cutterbar with no-tool adjustments. A smaller center pivot creates greater efficiency and productivity in a smaller package size, with easier road, bridge and small-field navigation. Includes 10’1” cut width. Offers rubber or flail conditioning system. New styling and decals create a sleek, modern look.

• DC125 disc mower conditioner: A longer swath gate with adjustments to fins and wedges offers cutting and windrow enhancements over previous designs. A smaller center pivot creates simple navigation and higher productivity in tight spaces. Includes a 11’7” cut width. Offers rubber, steel rolls or flail conditioning. Similar to the DC105, new styling and decals offer an updated look.

• DC135 disc mower conditioner: Replacing the DC133 disc mower conditioner, the DC135 provides industry-leading cut and crimp for superior hay quality and optimal windrow formation. A center pivot configuration offers simple navigation, while a 13’1”. cutterbar width and eight discs make for enhanced productivity. Offers rubber, steel rolls or flail conditioning.

• DC165 disc mower conditioner: Replacing the DC163 disc mower conditioner, the DC165 offers an even larger cutterbar — 16 ft. 5 in. — and ten discs for heavy-duty performance. Similar to other models, a center pivot configuration creates simple navigation. Offers rubber or steel roll conditioning.

Square balers have also seen an upgrade in the Case IH lineup, including a new small square electronic bale length control system option, providing more consistency in bale length. Options to set up bale count, average flakes per bale, average length of bale, bales per hour and other farm and field data will be available.

“Each addition or upgrade we’ve made has been driven by what growers want and need from their hay equipment,” Spencer said. “With this new, customer-focused lineup, we’re proud to say that Case IH offers a suite of hay tools for every kind of operation.”

Alta Seeds Brings Herbicide Tolerance to EMPYR Premier Forages

Alta Seeds, the premium seed brand of Advanta US and a leading provider of premium genetics and technology specific to sorghum, announces the first-ever herbicide-tolerant technology available in forage sorghum. Alta Seeds will feature igrowth® technology for pre- or post-emergence weed control applications with IMIFLEX® Herbicide in its newest forage sorghum hybrid, ADV F8484IG, a hybrid that is a member of EMPYR® Premier Forages, a complete line of forage sorghum, sudangrass and sorghum-sudan hybrids.

In 2020, Alta Seeds was the first to introduce herbicide-tolerant technology for grain sorghum, representing the most significant advancement in the crop since hybridization. For the first time, sorghum growers are able to apply pre- or post-emergent herbicide to control grassy and broadleaf weeds with igrowth hybrids.

The igrowth sorghum system, fully commercialized and adopted on upwards of a half million grain sorghum acres in 2021, will now be widely available for growers’ fields in the 2022 growing season in both grain sorghum and forage sorghum hybrids.

“With the current drought impacts throughout the Great Plains, igrowth in EMPYR Premier Forages provides livestock producers with groundbreaking technology to produce high-tonnage forage sorghum, with the added benefit of targeted weed control,” says Mark Kirk, Eastern/Western Regional Account Manager, Alta Seeds. “This medium- to late-season forage hybrid offers growers more value in production of silage forage. ADV F84848IG is an ideal alternative to corn silage, as it offers reduced inputs with high yields plus nutritional content that is competitive with corn silage.”

With the igrowth technology, ADV F8484IG is the first non-GMO herbicide-tolerant technology for forage sorghum. IMIFLEX Herbicide, manufactured by UPL Ltd., is the exclusive imidazolinone herbicide partner for the igrowth system. Approved by the Environmental Protection Agency in December 2020, IMIFLEX is a Group 2 herbicide that provides broad-spectrum, residual control of yield-robbing grass and broadleaf weeds, including lambsquarter, sandbur, morningglory, Texas panicum, crabgrass and foxtail. The igrowth technology allows for clean stand establishment and minimizes competition for water and nutrients, enabling maximum early season growth and weed suppression.

Feed Benefits with Excellent Standability

Not all forage sorghums are equal in performance. EMPYR Premier Forages are top-of-the-line, carefully selected hybrids that consistently outperform and outproduce in field and feed. A conventional non-BMR hybrid, ADV F8484IG offers brachytic dwarf, excellent disease resistance and high ratings for yield and standability for growers throughout the Sorghum Belt. In field trials, the hybrid yields forage equal to or greater in feed value than corn silage.

“This hybrid is an ideal selection for producers looking for next-generation technology and superior yield potential,” Kirk adds. “In a drought year like 2021, and the complications that will continue into the next growing season, forage sorghum can be a grower’s first choice for generating feed crop with a quicker turn around with an economic benefit. ADV F8484IG will only improve producer margins by controlling weeds, conserving nutrients and water usage, and improving forage quality with cleaner fields.”

EMPYR offers hybrids that fit a variety of environments, from silage production on the West Coast to haylage in the Upper Midwest, to grazing and dry hay production on the East Coast.
