Cattle make Daring Escape in New Jersey

Two cattle headed to a New Jersey slaughterhouse this week had other plans.

They busted out of a trailer in Montvale Tuesday and caused chaos in northern New Jersey for a while before they were captured. Now, they’ll spend the rest of their days on a Bergen County farm.

Animal control officials tell The Star-Ledger that a Montvale resident had purchased the cattle and they were to be taken to Paterson Wednesday to be slaughtered. But they escaped and created traffic nightmares in the area as police tried to corral them.

The female brown cow was cornered quickly, but the bull escaped capture until Wednesday when he was caught near the Garden State Parkway.

There are a number of fitness fans across the country who have taken on the colors of Team Beef running in the Boston Marathon or local 5Ks in their home state.

In Spain, there is the famous Running of the Bulls where people are powered by beef in a different manner.

It appears the world of fitness running and running with cattle have met in the most unlikely of places: New Jersey. The Cow Run 10 Miler featured 20 steers that made a sort of obstacle in the center of the course when their owner poured a few buckets of grain in the road.

It led to some pretty interesting images and luckily no bovines or athletes were hurt during the fun run.
