2010 will contain many legislative and regulatory issues that will affect farmers, according to commodity group leaders.
Steve Censky, American Soybean Association chief executive officer, says this year his group will focus on ensuring a biodiesel tax incentive and tackling climate change issues.
"We are actively working right now to extend the biodiesel incentive that expired at the end of the year,” he says. "We were very disappointed at the end of last year when the Senate was devoting their time to all health care, all the time, and not moving any other legislation.”

Rick Tolman, National Corn Growers Association chief executive officer, says his group's key issue will be the regulatory issues coming out of the renewable fuels standard.
Another big goal for this year is to get appropriations for the updating of the locks and dams on the Mississippi River.
"We got approval in 2007, so now it is time now to get the money allocated so we can start building those.”
