Two Separate Cattle Embezzlements Worth Millions
In March and April two men were charged for separate cases of embezzlement dealing with cattle.
Cameron J. Hager, 42, of Clinton, Mo., was charged in a nine-count indictment returned under seal by a federal grand jury in Kansas City, Mo., on March 28, 2018. Nearly 90 people were defrauded out of $4.7 million in an investment fraud scheme involving the resale of cattle.
Hager is alleged to have engaged in a fraud scheme where victims would invest in a “cattle fund” where Hager would purchase cattle and sell them for a profit. He ran the scheme through a business called 5A Holdings LLC, which operated from 2015 to 2018.
A warrant was issued for Marty Robert Maahs, 33, of Fletcher, Okla., and he turned himself into the Jackson County Sheriff ’s Department in Oklahoma on April 12.
Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) special ranger Scott Williamson led the investigation beginning in 2017. Officials with the bank were concerned Maahs was conducting illicit activities with a bank loan worth more than $1 million. Cattle were put up as collateral for the loan.
