Texas Team Wins 2017 World Championship Ranch Rodeo

The Wilson Cattle Co. and Haystack Cattle Co. from Texas rode away with the 2017 Working Ranch Cowboys Association’s (WRCA) World Championship Ranch Rodeo.

The 23rd annual World Championship Ranch Rodeo was hosted in Amarillo, Texas, with 23 teams from six different states (Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico) competing.

Team members for Wilson-Haystack include: Rodey Wilson, Clay Paige, Mike Crump, Tanner Allen and Jed Middleton. For Rodey Wilson, this marked his 13th year qualifying for the World Championship Ranch Rodeo and his third team championship. Several of the Wilson-Haystack team members competed at the World Championship Ranch Rodeo for the first time.

“I think we did the best in the (wild) cow milking,” Wilson says.

The team won the team even for Wild Cow Milking with times of :40.76 and :29.28.

“We have a really good mugger (Crump) and a decent cow milker (Allen),” Wilson says.

In addition to the team championship and winning Wild Cow Milking, Wilson’s horse Lightning Blue Jazz was named Reserve Top Horse.
