Hulett: Another Week, More of The Same
Cattle feeders saw nothing new in the live cattle trade last week as packers continued to be on limited head counts once again. This limited trade continued to hold the live market at $136 to $137 in the South.
The North did not see much different in its market. Cash prices were mostly $137 and dressed cattle bringing $218 for the most part.
Packers continue to have plenty of cattle around them. This has aided them in their efforts to keep a lid on the cash market. During the next few weeks we should see a slowdown in committed cattle numbers, which should force packers to participate in the live market.
