Sen. Judiciary Committee Puts America’s Food Supply Chain On Stage

( )

The Senate Judiciary Committee has announced a hearing will be held to discuss the nation’s food supply chain on Wednesday at 2:30 P.M. eastern. The hearing, “'Beefing up Competition: Examining America's Food Supply Chain,” will feature testimony from industry representatives, meatpackers and grocery supply partners. It will be livestreamed here.

The list of witnesses include:

> Jon Schaben of the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association

> Rob Larew, president of the National Farmers Union

> Shane Miller, president of fresh meats at Tyson Foods Group

> Tim Schellpeper, president of USA fed beef at JBS USA

> David Smith, president and CEO of the Associated Wholesalers Grocers

> George Slover, Consumer Reports senior policy council.

This follows a hearing last month in front of the Senate Ag Committee which heard input from cattle producers and industry groups about “anticompetitive practices” within the supply chain and how the lack of transparency harms ranchers. No representatives from the meat packing sector participated in that hearing.
