Monsanto Names 2013 Farm Mom
Virginia farmer Betty Rosson is no stranger to hard work and community involvement. Those two attributes are among many highlighted by Monsanto, which recently named Rosson the America’s Farmers 2013 Mom of the Year.
"Whether she is driving a tractor, feeding cows or caring for her family, Elizabeth (Betty) is 100% all-in for the job," wrote her son, Charles, in his nomination letter. "Mom certainly doesn’t let grass grow under her feet, as she is always on the move for her family, her church, her farm and the community."
Rosson farms with her husband, Charles, and two of their five sons, Charles and Lee, at fifth-generation Quaker Hill Farm in Louisa County, Va. They operate 3,000 acres of crops including corn, soybeans, hay and wheat while running 750 brood cows, primarily Angus and Simmental.
The winner was chosen through online voting after selection by a panel of American Agri-Women judges. Click here to read more about Rosson and the farm mom contest.
