After weeks of investigation on information regarding a livestock neglect case, over 150 cattle have been found dead in Lincoln County, Nebr. with another 1,000 head of neglected cattle seized shortly after.

Lincoln County deputies, with the help of the Nebraska Brand Inspectors Office and Nebraska State Patrol Aircraft completed the investigative search warrant to inspect the cattle on at least five sections of property under the control and operated by father-son duo, Larry and Matthew Mikoloyck, local news reports.

On March 1, investigators uncovered 150 dead cattle on the property with numerous others that were sick and dying. Reports claim very little substantial food sources and no water was available for most of the herd.

The day following the initial discovery, deputies and brand inspectors served a warrant to seize all the cattle on the Mikoloyck’s properties. With the help of neighboring law enforcement and local producers from Lincoln and Logan counties, over 1,000 bulls, cows and calves were transported to the North Platte Sale Barn for inspection by a licensed veterinarian, local news reports.

Additionally, numerous cattle had to be put down on scene due to sickness, injury or were dying.

While the investigation continues, Larry Mikoloyck, 75, and Matthew Mikoloyck, 41, were arrested on March 1 on 150 counts of animal cruelty and neglect resulting in death, a class IIIA felony for each case, local news reports, while both will likely face additional charges.
