Gardiner Angus Ranch Bulls Average $7,334
A total of 1,178 head of Angus cattle sold to 288 buyers from 34 states, on Saturday April 4, 2020, at the Gardiner Angus Ranch (GAR) 41st Annual production sale, Ashland, Kansas. In the wake of the social distancing guidelines, more than 72% of the cattle were sold online, as 633 bidders were registered to bid in person, on LiveAuctions.tv, and Superior Livestock Auction.
The sale was held three years, three months and four days after the Starbuck Wildfire, the largest wildfire in Kansas history nearly decimated Gardiner Angus Ranch.

This year the Gardiner family offered one of their largest-ever collection of Angus seedstock, calling this sale the Grand Plan 2020, an execution of a long-range plan that offered every female in the Gardiner Angus Ranch cow herd. An aggressive embryo transplant program has enabled GAR to increase the rate of genetic improvement and share some of the most elite seedstock in the Angus breed.
The Lot 1 bull, GAR Home Town, sold for $475,000, while GAR Ashland T298 sold for $104,000.
Overall, 403 GAR bulls sold for $2,955,500, an average of $7,334. Three hundred one 20-month-old bulls averaged $7,532, and 102 bulls 16-18-months-old averaged $6,630.
A total of 659 registered Angus females sold for $2,979,550, an average of $4,521. The 148 registered bred cows averaged $3,799, and 298 registered bred heifers averaged $3,847.
GAR also sold 27 bred commercial cows for an average of $3,200, along with 91 bred commercial heifers that averaged $2,654.
