Feeder Cattle Steady To $4 Higher
Steers and heifers sold at auction markets across the nation steady to $4 per cwt higher this week, according to Agricultural Marketing Service reporters.
“The supply of feeders was light this week as several early week auctions were dark in observance of the holiday and most others had limited offerings,” AMS said. “Demand for feeders was good although buyers are showing a stronger preference for cattle with good health programs as fall temperature swings become a concern.”
Cash fed cattle traded at $108 per cwt. live, and $177.69 on a dressed basis. Average prices were steady to $1 higher , supported by CME futures contracts that traded mostly on the positive side for the week.
USDA’s July import/export numbers shows exports 17% higher during July, with year-to-date totals up 15%. Imports were recorded at 2% below last year.
Choice beef cutout closed $3.13 lower at $206.56 per cwt. with Select down $4.18 per cwt. at $197.09. The Choice/Select spread was $9.47.
