A 50-year-old Iowa man is scheduled to be sentenced in November for knifing a co-worker at a meat plant in northeast Nebraska.

Online court records say Mahamud Abib, of Sioux City, Iowa, pleaded no contest and was convicted last week in Dakota County on felony assault and weapons charges. His sentencing is set for Nov. 4.

The knifing occurred April 24 at the Tyson Fresh Meats plant in Dakota City, where Abib had been working for less than a week. A court document says Abib reported that the man had upset him by thrusting his pelvis near Abib. Abib says he retaliated as a message to other workers that he would not tolerate insults.

The co-worker was treated at a hospital.
