AgriTalk After The Bell: New Dining Trends Good News for Beef
Wednesday on AgriTalk After the Bell, Don Close from Rabo AgriFinance talked with host Chip Flory about the demand side of the cattle and beef markets. He explained new trends in U.S. dining are helping to support beef demand. “High-end” or gourmet burgers are trending at fastfood and high-end dining establishments, while mid-range “steak-joint” resturaunts are the “weak link” in the beef offerings. Nonetheless, U.S. beef demand is being supported by a stronger economy.
Another trend helping beef demand are the “meal kits” that provide consumers with convienient, easy-to-make beef dishes. The stay-at-home trends (on-line shopping closing shopping malls; Netflix closing movie theaters) is transitioning to dining, says Close. He also emphasized the in-home dining is providing an opportunity to cattle and beef groups to educate another generation of cooks on the right cuts to choose and how to prepare those cuts to achieve the dining experience they desire.
