Demand was stronger at auction markets this week as AMS reporters called feeder steer and heifers steady to $5 higher.

“Some auctions that were called sharply lower last week recovered and were called sharply higher this week due to stability in the market place,” AMS said.

Cash fed cattle prices traded in a wide range from $114 to $122 per cwt on Friday in Nebraska. The bulk of cattle fell into the $117 to $118 per cwt range, mostly steady with last week. Dressed prices were $186 to $187 per cwt.

Choice beef cutout prices closed Friday at $212.61 per cwt., $1.70 lower than last Friday. Select beef cutout was $199.91 per cwt., $5.69 lower than last week. The Choice/Select spread was $8.71. Beef cutout values have declined about $13 per cwt. over the past month.
