July 11, 2007 – J BS S.A. acquired Swift Foods Company, based in
March 5, 2008 – JBS announces plans to acquire National Beef Packing Company, LLC, Smithfield Beef Group, Inc. and Tasman Group Ltd.
May 2, 2008 – JBS Swift acquired substantially all of the assets of the Tasman Group Services, an Australian meat-packing company.
October 23, 2008 – JBS Swift acquired Smithfield Beef Group, Inc., now known as JBS Packerland, for $563.2 million in cash. This acquisition included 100 percent of Five Rivers Cattle Feeding, which had been previously held by Smithfield Beef Group, Inc. in a 50/50 joint venture with Continental Grain Company.
February 18, 2009 – JBS Swift reached an agreement to terminate efforts to acquire National Beef Packing Company, LLC, effective February 23, 2009
June 25, 2009 – JBS voluntarily recalled 41,280 pounds of beef products that may have been contaminated with E. coli.
June 28, 2009 – JBS voluntarily expanded this recall to include an additional 380,000 pounds of assorted beef products. The recalled beef products were produced on April 21 and April 22, 2009 at the company’s
July 23, 2009 – JBS Swift announces plans to offer a public stock offering with a goal of raising $2 billion in capital.
